Use Cases

Order for diagnostic imaging

Players:

The patient Mrs S. Ufferer has an appointment with Dr O. Rderplacer at the group practice ‘Happy Doctors’: Dr O. Rderplacer agrees with the patient that a chest X-ray will be done in the Radiology Department ‘Happy Hospital’. Dr O. Rderplacer writes an X-ray order containing all the necessary information and sends it to Dr O. Rderfiller. For comparison, Dr O. Rderplacer encloses images and reports from earlier. She also asks for a copy of the report to be sent to the patient.

Associated Questionnaire Response

Order for a radiological examination with intervention

Players:

The patient Mrs S. Ufferer has pain in the buttock, thigh and calf muscles after walking approx. 100 m, and her toes are also discoloured blue. Dr O. Rderplacer suggests an angiography for the patient, if necessary with subsequent balloon dilatation (PTA), and registers her with Dr O. Rderfiller for this.

Associated Questionnaire Response

Obtaining a second opinion

Players:

According to the radiological report, the impression fracture appears to be stable. Therefore, and in view of the patient's age, surgery was not performed. However, Dr O. Rderplacer is not sure whether this decision was correct and sends the images and report to Prof K. Nowit-All for a second opinion.

Associated Questionnaire Response

The second opinion described above must be distinguished from the real-time remote diagnosis and case presentation offered by various teleradiology solutions. However, the latter require a technical infrastructure that goes beyond what is discussed here.

Order for external reporting

Players:

Med.pract. O. Rderplacer-Junior is on emergency duty. She orders a chest X-ray. The Small Hospital does have an X-ray machine, but a radiologist only visits on Tuesdays and Thursdays; on the other days of the week the images are examined by the radiologists at the Happy Hospital. Med.pract. O. Rderplacer-Junior therefore sends the images to Dr O. Rderfiller for reporting.

Associated Questionnaire Response

The external reporting described above must be distinguished from the real-time remote reporting and case presentation offered by various teleradiology solutions. The latter, however, require a technical infrastructure that goes beyond what is discussed here.

Request for results from earlier

Players:

Med.pract. O. Rderplacer-Junior asks the patient Mrs S. Ufferer whether she has ever had a chest X-ray. She says that she was x-rayed a year ago in the radiology department ‘Happy Hospital’. Med.pract. O. Rderplacer-Junior writes a request for the results of this examination and sends it to Dr O. Rderfiller, radiologist at the Radiology Department ‘Happy Hospital’. She also asks for a copy of the report to be sent to the patient.
